Road Trip to Sironia for Cupcakes and Cocktails, this was so much FUN!

Shirley Dygert and I attended Cupcakes and Cocktails, at the Shops at  Sironia, on Aug 16th.  Oh my Gosh, we had so much fun!!The event was supposed to be 5 PM to 7PM.  Rather than arrive promptly at 5 PM, we decided that it would be best to arrive about 5:15.  I think we should have arrived early.  The line of cars on both sides of the street went on for blocks and the parking lot was filled.

We got honked at by two teenage boys who were apparently annoyed by my attempting to find a parking space, SLOWLY.  It was quite humorous.  Once inside the store, one of two lovely ladies handed each of us a black shopping tote emblazoned with SIRONIA in hot pink.  I did not look at contents until later, but it contained a lovely gift from each of the vendors.

I had the opportunity to meet Holly and Martha, the owners, who graciously allowed me to photograph the shops. (Never take photos of merchandise without asking permission of the proprietors, it is rude and unprofessional.) They were happy to meet with us while they were busy ringing up purchases.  Every time I looked at the front, they were busy.

Perhaps I should explain what Sironia is.  This is a collection of shops, gathered into the building that housed SACHS, fifth avenue, until the 80's.  Each shop has its own area and personality.
The shop at the front door is a kitchen ware shop with handmade tea towels reminiscent of the 1930's and 1940's, along with one of the loveliest entertaining and cookbooks that I have ever seen.. The next is a toy store with items from 1960's and across the way is a fine jewelry shop,  The next shop we visited is little girls clothing store, complete with tutus.  There is a dish shop with so many lovely pieces, I thought I might not make it out.  Y'all know how much I love dishes!

Courtney's and Courtney's Too has ladies apparel that is fabulous. The designs are breezy and whimsical, youthful and tasteful, retro and modern. Very Cute!
.
In the back is an Iron, Texana, and Sign shop that also sells beautiful Mexican pottery.

Work your way around to Beediful and visit with Stephanie.  She has some very unusual pieces of jewelry made with stones the likes of which I have never seen.  Absolutely GORGEOUS!

Next to her is the Toodles Tea and Favorite Things shop.  The owner of this shop shared tea and raspberry vinegar with us.  She also carries organic sea salt that is in different colors and beautiful.

There is an upstairs with vintage furniture and a collection of items that will make an interior decorator swoon, including an extremely large transom window.

There are  metal kitchen cabinets from Mid-Century Modern homes, an old non working grocery scale and the lists goes on and on.

Downstairs there is an accessory shop called Lainey's which has the nicest items very reasonably priced.  Shirley purchased a beautiful little black purse from them and I bought some of the cutest earrings for gift.  It would be easy to accessorize any outfit with items from Lainey's with out feeling guilt over spending.

Next to Lainey's is a refinishing shop.  The owner told me that she can refinish any type of furniture or cabinetry.  She has just moved from Memphis so be sure and stop by to make her feel welcome.
Do you have a difficult time find cute boys clothing? Try iBoy.  They even have pith helmets for those backyard safaris.

Moving toward the front of the store is the Cafe, which provided Margaritas, Beer, and Wine.  I selected an un-oaked Chardonnay.  Of course there were Cupcakes, Shirley had a coconut with a lemon flavor underneath and I had a German Chocolate.  I selected mine because it was purple with a purple, German chocolate butter cream icing.  It was very moist, distinctive, and delicious. Shirley and I decided we are going to the cafe for lunch, very soon!
As stated at the beginning, this event was from 5PM to 7PM, but when we left there were still shoppers browsing and buying.  It was 7:40. Holly told the lady in front of us that the next event will be the third Thursday of November.  I will definitely be there and I hope you will be, too.  The shops at Sironia are open Tuesday  through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM and the Cafe is open 11:30AM to 2 PM .  The shops offer reasonably priced goods that are unique and beautiful.
Thanks so much to Martha and Holly, as well as the owners of the shops at Sironia, for allowing Shirley and I to visit, photograph, and shop!

See you at Sironia!

Deloris
